Application Process

Completed applications (including letters of recommendation) must be received by the CSHA District of applicant's permanent residence Chair of the Districts Nominating Committee (District Director Elect) by July 31. In the event the applicant is an in-coming first-year graduate student, a copy of a letter of acceptance into one of the California ASHA accredited graduate programs must accompany the application. Incomplete applications will not be eligible for consideration. All eligible applications will be considered by the nominating committee based on the criteria listed below. The applications (no more than 1 per 100 district members) will be forwarded to the State Honors Committee which will review the final applications. If more qualified applications are received by the district than can be forwarded to the State Honors Committee, a random selection based upon the number of allowed scholarships will be performed by the District Nomination Committee and these selected applicants will be forwarded.

The CSHA State Honors Committee evaluates nominees for scholarships solely on the information provided in the nomination packet prepared by the district nomination committee. When information and/or documentation are incomplete, the Honors Committee must reject the nomination. All eligible applications will be rated by the nominating committee based on the criteria listed below.

From this group, based upon the number of available scholarships, the highest-scoring applicants will be selected to receive the financial award. Letters of recognition and certificates of achievement will be awarded to all qualified applicants regardless of the results of the final selection.

Notification of Award

All applicants will be notified no later than the annual spring CSHA Convention. Those students who (a) meet the highest standards and are eligible to receive the CSHA Student Scholarship, or (b) are selected to be the recipient(s) of the scholarship(s) will be formally recognized and honored through one or more publications and during the annual spring state CSHA Convention.
