6/23/08 - Licensing Sunset Extension Legislation Signed

SB 797 (B&P Committee bill) Licensing Board   

The Governor signed SB 797 on June 23, 2007 which authorizes Dept of Consumer Affairs to create advisory committees through January 1, 2009, to the Dental Board, the Speech-Language Pathology & Audiology Board, the Board of Voc Nursing & Psych Technicians, and the Barbering &
Cosmetology Board, upon the conversion of those boards to bureaus.

AB 1545 (Eng, D-East LA) Licensing Board

The Governor signed AB 1545 on 6/23 and establish, on Jan. 1, 2009, the DBC, SLPAB, BVN & BBC    within DCA. Provide for the appointment of an
executive officer and establish each board with the same membership & powers as the previous board which will become inoperative on July 1, 2008. Repeals authority for the boards and for the executive officers on January 1, 2012. Provide that if members are not appointed to a board on
Jan. 1, 2009, the persons who served as members of the prior board on  June 30, 2008, shall temporarily serve as board members until new board
members are appointed. Authorizes appointing authorities to appoint to a board a person who was a member of the prior board on June 30, 2008.
Authorizes executive officer of each previous board to serve as interim executive officer of the board until the appointment of a permanent executive
officer by the board.
